[Video] 1st Falling Feather

[There's a young high school kid with a Swablu on his shoulder cheerfully smiling on your screen.]

Salutations, mes amies! I'm Sakazaki Yuuya, and this lovely bird has yet to receive a name. He shall get one the moment I think of an appropriate one.

[He lightly scratches the Pokemon's head, and it makes a cooing sound in response.]

Getting to the point, I highly doubt that this is the afterlife, so I must still be alive. Else I'm in some dreamland, but it feels much too real for that. There was an explanation given to me, but I'd like to verify it before putting any sort of belief into it. Anything at all will help, even recommendations to the best restaurants in the cities!

Ah, yes, speaking of that. Is there a map I can use, or perhaps a map function on this "Pokegear?" I would so hate to get helplessly lost, especially on my first day here.

The path from New Bark Town to Cherrygrove is pretty straightforward, so you don't have to worry about that!

It seems I lucked out on my first day, then! What kind of place is Cherrygrove like?

Welcome to Johto, Yuuya! The map's on the 'Gear and the path from New Bark to Cherrygrove is pretty straight forward.

Oh, good, then I don't have to worry about getting lost just yet!

[God, he doesn't want to think about getting lost in some cave.]

Then to the next question. What kind of animal have I been given? I've never seen a bird quite like it before.

Your starter Pokemon? Actually, that's the first one I see. You can check what kind is it on your Pokedex.

[He hold up his own Pokedex to show on the screen. Flipping it on, it start reading out Swablu's entry.]

"Swablu, the Cotton Bird Pokemon. Its wings bring cottony clouds to mind. It grooms with springwater and loves to sit on heads."

[As if to prove the point, the Swablu sits on his head for a nap.]

Handy! Then I suppose that the red-and-white balls are for storing them?

[He laughs a bit at Swablu's action, before answering Yuuya.]

The Pokeballs? That's right! Handy for carrying your team around and while travelling. I usually have one or two outside with me for company.

And probably an easy way to keep track of them. I noticed that I was given only five, if I don't include the Swablu's own Pokeball. Does this mean that I can only carry around a certain number of them?

Yeeeep. You can only carry around six Pokemon at once with you. If you capture any more Pokemon, they'll be automatically be transferred to the PC.

Convenient! Where are the PC's located?

Normally, you can find them in Pokemon Centers. But there's places where you can access then, like Pokemon labs.

The best restaurants? My, you certainly have refined taste if that's along your first thoughts in a strange new world. [ Breaking out into a bright smile, she'll lift a hand to wave. ] Welcome to Johto, Sakazaki.

It's a beautiful place full of interesting creatures and the people aren't all that bad. The food here is some of the finest I've ever had as well.

[ At least she's pleasant in all things. ]

It seems to be a peaceful, friendly place so far! I see no reason to panic over something I couldn't control.

I was most certainly not of the living before coming here, and then I'm suddenly brought back to life in a strange new world.

Well, I did hear something about a Gym Leader challenge from the locals. If I recall correctly, there are eight in Johto.

It is another world, but I don't believe it is the afterlife. Then again, I suppose we do have at least one resident who is dead... of sorts.

Oh? Is it common for the dead to be brought back to life in this world?

Not exactly. It seems he was undead in his world, so it's a bit of an odd circumstance.

This is quite the curious world I've been thrown into. How about being changed from one species into the human species?

I don't doubt it's possible, considering stranger things have happened here... Why do you ask?

Well, the last time I checked, I wasn't strictly human at birth. I'm not complaining, but it's still pretty odd where I'm coming from.

Well, for one thing, people are collected from not only different worlds, but also times within those worlds. I'd say that alone is rather odd, wouldn't you?

As for your species... Might I ask what you were formerly if not human?

Most certainly! Then this world doesn't care about time or circumstances when it takes people. It almost makes you think it has a mind of its own.

As long as we keep my height and weight out of it. I was formerly a fantail dove.

Just as quickly, people can vanish from it as well. It's rather inconsistent.

[Although that second part is...]

Then entering and exiting are left up to fate. I'm not sure whether that's a good thing or not.

Precisely. The most abundant species on the Earth I'm from would be birds on the same level of intelligence as humans. Actually, most humans have died out, and the birds most commonly found are doves.

...I see. Could I ask-- what caused all of this?

Of course. There was a highly contagious and lethal to humans strain of H5N1, avian influenza. The leaders of the time decided to use another virus to counteract it, which was designed to kill the infected birds. Instead of killing the birds, however, it started to change the size of their brains and body structure with each generation. Now, we're a bit shy of the average size a human is, and so far there are only a few species of birds with enough intelligence to even attend school. They're getting there, though. The quails are a much more recent addition to our society, and doves were the first.

...I see. Quite different indeed.

And you're a human here... Interesting. Hopefully it won't be too hard for you to adjust, although to be honest you seem to be getting along well already.

As you can probably guess, there's a bit of animosity between birds and humanity. [That's an understatement, Yuuya.]

Oh, I just need to remember that I can't fly. How embarrassing would that be?

Please try to remember that well. I've not heard of anyone dying here, but I also think it would be best not to challenge it too much.

And no, as strange as this world may seem ... this is not the afterlife. The Pokegear does come with a map. It took me a while to get used to using it, but the Pokegear is very user friendly. You shouldn't have too much problems with it.

[So many pretty ladies! He has to be in heaven.]

What relief! [And confused.] Hopefully, my little companion won't learn how to use it, too. I'd hate for it to catch me in a most embarrassing moment.

[ Giggling. ] Well, it depends ... some Pokemon can be quite intelligent. My Pokemon, Mister Pink and Liana can use my Pokegear just fine ...
